The praise came as Bait – written, directed and filmed by Cornwall’s Mark Jenkin, produced by Early Day Films of Bristol and distributed by the BFI (British Film Institute) – took £345,770 at 124 cinemas UK-wide.

The unique low budget black and white film, shot on a vintage wind-up camera, has taken over £300,000 in ticket sales and has remained in the UK box office Top 30 since it hit screens on August 30.

While other films may have used Cornwall as a location and a storyline, Fisherman’s Friends for example, Bait is the most successful film created by a Cornish writer, director and cast. As of today, BAIT has been shown at 124 cinemas UK-wide and taken £345,770 at the box office.

The film’s writer, director and main cameraman Mark Jenkin told Cornwall Live: “I’ve been absolutely blown away by the reaction to the film both locally and further afield.
